bull ownership

What does a bucking bull syndicate mean?

Here’s how it works.

MF Buckers purchases a bull in collaboration with 3x PBR Stock Contractor of the Year, Blake Sharp. If you’ve ever watched PBR, you’ve seen him. He’s the rather large man behind the chutes, flanking his many superstar bulls in a trademark cowboy hat and denim pearl snap. He’s hard to miss—and it’s safe to say the guy knows exactly what he’s doing.

After the initial purchase, there’s a reasonable mark-up on the bull, and ownership is split among the MF Buckers members who are interested in going in on that bull. This markup keeps the operation running since a whole lot of time, energy, and windshield miles go into finding just the right bucker.

Once the bull is purchased, there are usually no monthly expenses for MF Buckers owners. Blake meticulously maintains the bulls at his ranch in Mississippi. He feeds them (these boys eat like linebackers), hauls them to events, trims their feet, and handles all routine vet work and health certificates for travel. In return for this full-time gig, Blake is compensated by the PBR each time a bull under his care leaves the chute at an event.

Additional VIP options can be arranged through Maria for an extra cost. These events routinely sell out, so make reservations early unless you enjoy disappointment.

A trip down to the bucking chutes before the event.
You’ll get up close with the bulls and enjoy a private “Bull Tour” from Blake Sharp himself.

A damn good time with a great group of people.
We don’t do boring.

Most importantly: BIG-TIME BRAGGING RIGHTS. You will instantly become the most interesting person at any dinner table, office meeting, or PTA event. No one beats “I own part of a PBR bucking bull.”

How do I make money?

Chances are, you don’t.
This is the rodeo world, not Wall Street.

But if your bull wins PBR Bull of the Year, the $100,000 bonus will be split among the owners. If your bull is good enough to breed, there may be future income from breeding fees—details to be discussed if and when that glorious day arrives.

What if my bull doesn’t make it to the big show?

He can come live in your yard.
JUST KIDDING.
(Though imagine telling your HOA…)

Realistically, the ownership group will discuss the best next steps, with final decisions made by Blake and Maria. Most commonly, the bull will be sold through a sale and go to a lower-level rodeo circuit—there are plenty of them below the PBR—where he can still have a great career. Sales proceeds are then distributed among the owners.
